Do your workers remove asbestos or asbestos-containing material? Perhaps building, roofing, plumbing or demolition? Here’s a heads up about changes to asbestos-related work in force from 4 April.
While the risks of working with asbestos in buildings have been known for many years, a lot has been discovered recently about the risks of asbestos in soil and how to manage them.
Working with industry experts, BRANZ has built on existing international information to develop guidance for dealing with asbestos-contaminated soils in New Zealand.
As demolitions ramp up in Christchurch and Auckland, there will be plenty of situations where asbestos is encountered. The onus is on contractors to check for asbestos and to have a plan in place to deal with it if found.
New rules about dealing with asbestos are almost fully in place. It’s not just a matter of asbestos in old buildings – we are also uncovering surprises about asbestos in soil and the risks it brings.
Due to careful planning, the removal of asbestos roofing from the administration building at BRANZ ran smoothly with no hazards logged from either staff or contractors.
