Rating multi-res
housing
The latest version of the
Homestar rating tool
for New Zealand home
sustainability makes it
easier for apartment
buyers to gauge the health
and efficiency of their
property.
HOMESTAR V3 has been updated to suit higher- density developments. This will make it easier to use on large multi-scale projects such as apartments and terraced townhouses.
The additions to this version of Homestar speci c to multi-home developments include:
● rewarding shared areas that promote
community activities, such as landscap-
ed areas and playgrounds
● levels of natural light within apartments ● e cient heating and air conditioning
● the use of brown eld sites.
‘The growing pressure on our housing supply is a major issue for New Zealand, and increasing the density of our cities is the most sustainable way to meet that demand,’ says Alex Cutler, Chief Executive O cer of the New Zealand Green Building Council.
‘The new version of Homestar will help ensure new apartments and multi-unit projects are energy e cient, healthy and liveable homes with good community facilities and green space.
‘It’s important to keep rating tools updated and aligned with current best practice. By updating Homestar for higher- density projects, we’re keeping pace with industry needs.’
‘Extensive decking completed the renovation, some of which is covered by louvre roo ng panels and tted out with an outdoor sound system and heaters. This entertainment area ows out to the swimming pool.
‘What has resulted is an exceptional build by a quality builder in Albany.’
