Kiwi takes
out Aussie
awards
IN A FIRST, a Kiwi woman has won two high- pro le Australian construction industry awards. Lucy Eng, who is a Project and Cost Manager at Beca in Christchurch, won the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors In nite Value Women in Construction and Professional of the Year awards.
Lucy says quantity surveying and construction management appealed to her because of the challenges involved in di erent phases of a project life cycle.
‘I love having the opportunity to work on a project from start to nish, deliver it to the client and see their smile at the end.’
She says she has faced several challenges in her career, and being a woman was one. ‘The construction industry is de nitely male dominated, and I de nitely found that hard at rst and still do sometimes.
‘In every project that I’m involved in, I put in extreme e ort and commitment to make sure I deliver my job on time and deliver it well.’
